Overview

Our mission is to enhance the lives of youth by providing educational programs that promote team-building, establishing mentorships, and building character through the game of golf.

In addition to supporting high school golf programs, the Seacoast Junior Golf Association plans to provide golf education, coaching, and fitness training to Seacoast area youth in an effort to expand training and playing opportunities to junior golfers regardless of a family’s ability to pay.

Year-Round Training Opportunities

Today’s golfers train year round, and the Seacoast Junior Golf Academy plans to offer junior athletes the advantage of year-round, professional instruction and coaching. Our programs will include indoor fitness training, swing instruction, and simulated tournament play as well as traditional on-course play and practice.

Indoor & Winter Training

Group Training Program

Golfers will train as a group with certified strength coaches with an emphasis on golf-specific flexibility and core strengthening exercises. Athletes will also learn a daily workout routine that they can practice at home to maximize performance.

Swing Program

Utilizing a Foresight GC3 simulator, and with instruction from a certified golf professional, we will focus on ensuring that each club is fitted properly to the athlete. Swing analysis will also allow our juniors to dial in their technique and hit the courses in the spring with improved form.

Simulator Tourney Golf

Simulator matches are a fun way to approach team tournament play. Using one of our two GC3 simulators, groups play competitively on one of the many courses the GC3 provides.

Spring & Summer Training

Group Play

Players will learn rules of the game, etiquette, sportsmanship, strategy, and pace of play while working on their form and enjoying a round of golf together. We will also discuss the different types of match play (best ball, four ball, etc).

Green & Range Practice

Players will practice putting skills and driving while also learning the etiquette of busy practice greens and safety considerations of a driving range. Coaches will work one on one helping players tweak their form.

Multiple Levels of Training

The goal for the Seacoast Junior Golf Academy is to provide several levels of training, from pee-wee golf (ages 4-7) right up through league tournament play. We have created a program that will get your child started in golf, offering them an early advantage on everything the sport has to offer. Our planned structure will include six distinct levels, each of which is described below.

Overview of Program Levels

Below is a brief overview of the six levels of training we plan to offer at the Seacoast Junior Golf Academy. Currently, we are only offering programs for Levels 3, 4, 5, and 6. We will expand our programming to all levels in 2025.

  • LEVEL 1 – PEEWEE: Introduction to the game of golf through fun games and activities
  • LEVEL 2 – BEGINNER: Introduction to golf through interactive lessons and applications
  • LEVEL 3 – INTERMEDIATE: Learning the game of golf through more advanced skills, basic golf course etiquette, and rules of the game
  • LEVEL 4 – PLAYING: Introduction to the course

Pee-Wee (Level 1)

Coming in 2025

Students ages 4-7 will be introduced to the game of golf through fun games and activities. Students will learn the basics of putting, chipping, pitching, and full swing. Parents must participate in class.

  • The Swings: Putting, Chipping, Pitching, Full Swing (Irons and Driving)
  • The Fundamentals: Grip, Aim, Stance, Posture (GASP); Distance and Direction (2Ds)
  • The Values: Respect, Courtesy, Sportsmanship, Honesty, Perseverance

We use an incremental approach to learn the major skills in golf, studying smaller swings (putting and chipping) before the longer swings (half/full swing), and understanding the differences between them. Following our weekly lesson, we apply skills with fun games and competitions.

Equipment is provided, though we suggest purchasing golf clubs for students.

In this class, parents are required to attend and participate with students. The instructor will teach parents how to properly communicate golf skills to students.

Class size is limited and will run for 45 minutes weekly.

Beginner (Level 2)

Coming in 2025

Students ages 14-17 will be introduced to the game of golf through interactive lessons and applications. Students will learn the basics of putting, chipping, pitching, and full swing.

The Beginner Level is a great introduction to golf for kids ages 8 and up. Basic golf skills including putting, chipping, pitching, and full swing will be taught and practiced in small groups. Students in the Beginner Level will become proficient in essential life skills, such as introducing oneself and displaying sportsmanship both on and off the golf course.

Class size is limited and will run for 60 minutes weekly.

Intermediate (Level 3)

Students ages 14-17 will continue learning the exciting game of golf through more advanced skills and basic golf course etiquette and rules. Students will learn how to apply golf skills on the golf course for the first time.

The Intermediate Level is a slightly more advanced skill level for kids ages 8 and up. In this skill level, students are taught and expected to demonstrate higher levels of skills, including how to ask good questions and how to make decisions on the golf course. Students in the Intermediate Level will become proficient in higher levels of golf terminology, rules, and golf swing fundamentals. New skills include bunker shots, flop shots, bounce and loft, club selection, and ball flight.

  • New Swings: Bunker Shots, Flop Shots
  • New Fundamentals: Swing Path, Aim and Alignment, Clubface, Club Selection, Yardage Control, Weight Shift
  • The Values: Respect, Courtesy, Sportsmanship, Honesty, Perseverance

We use an incremental approach to learn the major skills in golf, studying smaller swings (putting and chipping) before the longer swings (half/full swing), and understanding the differences between them. Unlike the beginner level, students will learn the underlying fundamentals behind all the major golf swings, including several new swings. Students will be introduced to the USGA Rules of Golf through interactive demonstrations and weekly quizzes. Golf course etiquette will be studied extensively so students can conduct themselves appropriately on the golf course.

Equipment is provided, though we suggest purchasing golf clubs for students.

Class size is limited.

Playing (Level 4) Intro to the Golf Course

The Playing Level is an extension of the curriculum from the Intermediate class. It is designed to continue to challenge students' golf knowledge and skills. The Playing Level introduces students to the golf course, developing more advanced skills and etiquette. New skills include scorekeeping, pace of play, approach shots, uneven lies, punch shots, and yardage charts.

Students ages 14-17 will continue honing their golf skills through on-course practice and application. Students will learn how to transfer their skills to an on-course setting and develop an idea of pace of play and golf course competency.

  • New Skills: Scorekeeping, Pre-shot Routine, Punch Shots, Uneven Lies, High/Low Shots
  • The Values: Respect, Courtesy, Sportsmanship, Honesty, Perseverance

In this level, students spend time honing their skills and developing new skills. Half of each class is spent integrating students to on-course play. Each week has an on-course focus, including tee box, putting green, through the green, pace of play, and scorekeeping. Students will spend 60 minutes on the golf course each week, learning how to apply their skills to the course, work with other teammates, and understand their personal playing style. The first 60 minutes of class will be focused on perfecting existing skills, introducing new skills, including uneven lies, punch shots, and high/low shots, along with a rules discussion and competition.

Equipment is provided, though we suggest purchasing golf clubs for students.

Class size is limited.

Advanced (Level 5) Intro to Tournament Play

The Advanced Level is designed to prepare students for tournaments. Students will compete against each other during a 10-week simulated tournament. Various formats of play will be used including stroke play, match play, scramble, alternate shot, and more. Students will also receive plenty of instruction and practice during clinics and drills.

Students ages 14-17 will practice honing their golf skills through extensive on-course practice and application. Students will learn how to compete and strategize in a hands-on learning environment.

  • Strategies: Scorekeeping, Pre-shot Routine, Yardage Charts, Approach Shots, Punch Shots, Ball Flight, Advanced Drills, Pace of Play
  • The Values: Respect, Courtesy, Sportsmanship, Honesty, Perseverance

In this level, students are provided numerous resources to add to their toolbox. Students will develop their pre-shot routine, design a yardage chart, learn how to shape their shots to their lie, and understand how to add curve to ball flight. Unlike the playing level, students will play independently with others on the golf course. Students will be culminating their study into the USGA Rules of Golf through interactive demonstrations and weekly quizzes.

Students will spend time on the golf course each week, learning how to make timely decisions and keep pace of play, compete with their peers, keep score, and understand how to improve their score, and learn how to play in golf tournaments.

Equipment is provided, though we suggest purchasing golf clubs for students.

League (Level 6) Intro to Competition

The SJGA League is for students who are playing in local tournaments and want extra practice and instruction. Taught by PGA professional instructors, the SJGA 9-hole league is a weekly league that provides students with practice, instruction, community, and fun. Our instructors help students navigate the course, strategize and plan shots, and lower their scores. Students are encouraged to begin volunteering for lower-level classes to reinforce their own skills.

In the final level of our player development program, students will be given the opportunity to compete against each other in a weekly 9-hole league with instruction provided by PGA Class A professionals. Students will also improve their swing and course strategy, and focus on lowering their score while maintaining speedy pace of play and a clear mental game.
